Lay

All lay workers who are considered part of a parish’s ministry team and are members of staff whether paid or unpaid should also hold an authority from the Archbishop for this work.

The Authorisation of Lay Ministry Ordinance 2015 governs the authorisation of lay people. Please click on the link below to complete an online application to apply for an Archbishop’s Authority.

Once the application has been submitted by the applicant the Diocesan Registry will then email the Rector with a copy of the application seeking his support. The Diocesan Registry will check if a confidential lifestyle will need to be completed. If so an email will be sent to the applicant explaining this process and providing the link for the questionnaire. The applicant will need to arrange an interviw to discuss their questionnaire, usually with the relevant Executive Assistant to the Regional Bishop or the Archdeacon for Women’s Ministry.

Once a clearance has been received from the Professional Standards Unit, the application will be sent for approval to the Regional Bishop and an authority will be issued.

The confidential lifestyle questionnaire is completed every ten years. For those who are already authorised this will need to be completed when applying for a renewal of an existing authority. To view this questionnaire, please click the link below.

Refer to the Authorisation of Lay Ministry Ordinance 2015.

The confidential lifestyle questionnaire is available on the Safe Ministry website of the Professional Standards Unit. The questionnaire is available in PDF format. The questionnaire requires that you read Faithfulness in Service.
